What is Roof Scaffolding

One of the most searched terms in Google is roof scaffolding, but what is it? Roof scaffolding is a bit of an unusual search term as, with most of the jobs we undertake, the scaffolding isn’t erected onto the roof itself.

Roof Repairs

The most common job we get is for roof repairs, where the scaffolding itself goes up to the gutter line of the elevation(s) of your home. This then provides a safe, easy to access platform that the contractors work from to replace any damaged slates or, in certain circumstances, replace the whole roof if needed. We can’t advise on whether a roof needs replacing or repairing, we refer to the expertise of such people as MD Jones for that. As a reputable scaffolding company, what we do know is that we play a important part in keeping everyone safe. On slip, a dropped slate or a hammer sliding off the roof represents significant danger to anyone below. Loading all of the replacement materials and removing the old ones would be far more dangerous if undertaken on a ladder, our scaffolders ensure that the work is undertaken with all sensible health and safety precautions in mind.

Chimney Scaffold

What about the Chimney? Another common, although specialised, scaffold type is a chimney scaffold. Whether this requires a full or partial wrap, erecting scaffolding to any chimney should only be done so by well trained scaffolds with the knowledge on how to carry this out safely. Often done to allow for re-pointing or chimney repairs to be carried out, as with all scaffolds, these have to be carefully built and planned to ensure their integrity. Breakages to slates and the roof are, unfortunately, almost a certainty with these kinds of structures. We will always leave the structure up to facilitate any repairs necessary; although these repairs are at the homeowners costs.

Professional Scaffolds

It is always important to remember with any ‘at home scaffolding’ that these structures are to be used by competent professionals only and, although every precaution should and is taken by reputable local scaffolding companies, scaffolding for home use is a risk best left to professionals. This is especially true when any ‘roof scaffolding’ is involved.

Designs

If your thinking of using scaffolding for structural support, always ensure a fully detailed design is obtained beforehand to ensure everyone knows what they are building and how.
